SPOTLIGHT ON POETS PRESENTS...

Billy Shelton

Q. What is your worst life experience?

A. Let's see...probably my divorce but we won't go into that.

Q. What is your strongest sense?

A. My sense of self...I had this problem where I never thought I was good enough. I don't have that problem anymore.

Q. What do you like best about yourself?

A. Thats a tough one....hmmm...I would have to say my ability to be a good listener...I never had a lot of girlfriends because I was too busy being their big brother.

Q. Tell me about your best friend.

A. I have never seen my best friend, nor hugged her,or touched her and yet....she is as real as anyone I know in my offline life. She is wild and witty and she always makes me laugh.I know its weird but my best friend is a very beautiful lady who lives in Canada....3000 miles away from me and I met her online.

Q. What is your most prized possession?

A. Probably my writings from my teen years...I have 5 or 6 notebooks full of them....someday I might put them online...I have improved over the years and they are rather amateurish but they are a part of me.

Q. What would you define as the most terrifying moment of your life?

A. Probably an accident I had when I was 20.....I was stabbed in the eye by a sharp tool at this job I used to work at....I thought I was horribly disfigured for life. But after 4 hours of surgery and a decade or so to heal....you can hardly even notice it now.

Q. If you could go back and relive a year of your life, which year would it be?

A. Oooo easy one.....1984...I loved that year even though mostly all I did during it was party but I did have alot of fun and learned alot of things....most of them bad.

Q. What is your proudest accomplishment?

A. I had a dream for a long time to hear a song I wrote played on the radio....I am happy to say I accomplished that.....it was a touching moment for me when i heard it because as far as I'm concerned thats all I have ever been....a songwriter...and to me a song is poetry with music.

Q. Do you remember writing your first poem?

A. The first poem I ever wrote was in the 7th grade....I did it for a grade...and I got an A+ too.

Q. Whose poetry do you like to read?

A. I really don't like to read poetry all that much...the only poet I have ever read extensively is Jim Morrison...some people would say he wasn't a poet.

Q. If you had 3 free hours in the middle of the afternoon, how would you spend them?

A. I would probably spend them lying in a hot bath reading....reading takes up alot of my free time.
